Ngorongoro is  a only one Tanzania conservation area and a world heritage site, covering an area of 8300 Km,a distance of 180 Km west of Arusha region. Ngorongoro crater is a breathtaking natural wonder of the world, however the jewel in Ngorongoro's crown is a deep and a long string volcanic crater, the largest unbroken and unflooded caldera on the planet. 

The name Ngorongoro derives from Maasai word "El-Nkoronkoro" meaning "Gift of life ",this was because the maasai tribe members were moved from central Africa to the permanent settlement in Ngorongoro conservation area,till now the area is a multiple land use with semi-nomadic maasai pastoralists and wildlife coexisting. The Ngorongoro sharing part of the Serengeti grassy plain to the north-west where wildebeests migration also passes through from Dec and move out north in June. The Ngorongoro crater is home to the all big five animals include Black rhino, elephant, bufallo, lion and leopard at rain forest of the crater rim. Thousands of wildebeests, zebra, eland, Thompson gazelle's, mountain reedbuck, cheetah population might seen at lake ndutu to the west. Various predators like Hyena ,wild dog and jackals are found too. But also Ngorongoro is home to the largest bird to small, ostrich, pelicans, and both greater and lesser flamingo normally seen at the alkaline lake ndutu. The Ngorongoro area encompases the Olduvai Gorge archaeological site, the cradle of mankind, where the first ancestors man, was discovered by Dr Louis and his wife Mery leakey 50 years ago1,now is world heritage site. 
Rainy season start from November to April, the warmest month is February and coolest month is July, the temperature range from 35°c to 6.5°c. 
What to do 
You might do game drive while area from olmoti crater to Embakai, endoro river down to the greater Rift valley are suitable for wilderness trail, where you may experience birding and local flora, however you might visit maasai local boma. 
The best time to visit 
The dry season is the best time to visit Ngorongoro from June to October.

All road are easily passable, 180 Km west of Arusha town.
